LOCATION

A trip down the western shore of Lake Como will bring you to the historic town of Menaggio. It consists of the old town centre and the adjacent hamlets of Loveno, Nobiallo and Croce. The Roman conquest in 196 BC and the later 15th century Spanish domination have left their mark right across the town. This interesting mix of art and cultures makes for interesting wanders through the narrow winding streets.

WHEN TO GO:
For summer trips you will find Menaggio at its best between May and September when you can enjoy the lake to its fullest. However, don’t forget that winter has its joys too.

WEATHER:
With a short winter, fresh flower filled springs and mild summers Menaggio is an ideal location for family holidays. The good sunshine lets you get out and about to enjoy the town and its lovely surrounds.

WHAT TO DO:
Biking and trekking: Menaggio is the perfect starting for numerous walks and biking trails into the Lombardy countryside. From the town you reach Rifugio Menaggio and indulge in the spectacular views of the lake from the southern slope of Mont Grona. The Val Sanagra Park, Lake Piano and Monti di Nava, among other lovely locations, are all open to you from Menaggio.

For kids there is a fun and informative puzzle tour through the town. Each child is given a question and drawing sheet which lets them explore and discover the wonderful life and history of Menaggio. 

TRIPS
Apart from the country trails you find your way into the nearby valleys by bus or car. Here you can enjoy visiting the local villages and their Romanesque churches. If you fancy something a little grander then there are boat trips to villas where you can quietly appreciate their picturesque grounds and gardens with a lakeside backdrop.

SPORT
For the adventurous types they can test their rock climbing on Monte Grona or the climbing face between the town and Nobiallo. For water lovers there is kayaking, sailing and water skiing. Winter visitors can experience the ski slopes and trekking in the sorrouding mountains. All equipment can be hired locally.

If you would like a different type of challenge go a round on one of the oldest golf courses in Europe in the shape of the Menaggio and Cadenabbia club. Dating from 1907 it has a sumptuous clubhouse filled with over a 100 years of history and class.

MUSIC
The Menaggio Guitar Festival started in 2005 and is an important summer music festival which attracts many famous guitarists. Among those who graced the festival are Roman Bunka, Martin Taylor, Pete Huttlinger, Franco Cerri and Solorazaf. 

EATING OUT:
Of course, being in Italy, you will find an array of restaurants and trattoria which serve excellent local food. 
 
HOW TO GET THERE: 
Due to its central position along the lake Menaggio is easily accessible by car or public transport. 
By car: Menaggio is only 80km from Milan and 27km from Lugano. From either Bellagio or Varenna you can take the car ferry service across the lake to Menaggio.
By train: You have three options out of Milan by train. You can take the FS train from the Central Station in Milan to Como and from here you can catch a bus which leaves hourly. Otherwise you can try the FS train to Sondrio. Get off at Varenna-Esino and travel the 300m down to the boat dock and take a ferry across to Menaggio. Lastly, from Milano Cadorna station take the FNME train to Como Lago and take the hourly C10 bus from Piazza Matteotti.
